Defender's Cup Regatta - 2011
August 10, 2011
Defenders Cup Regatta 2011
Continuing the tradition of an exciting regatta, 2010 included eleven Flying Scots. The skippers and crews were a mixture of veteran staff and alumni and offspring of Don Lee traditional and family campers. The winning team was sponsored by Jane Spicer . This time it was the children who beat the parents.
NEW FORMAT FOR DEFENDER’S CUP REGATTA 2011
In 2011 the Regatta takes on a the renewed structure and looks to be an even more exciting event. To begin with, there will be a four person crew for each boat. There will be at least a series of four races with all crew members onboard for each race. This format should allow more people to be directly involved and invested in the event. Each boat will require sponsorship to be entered into the regatta. Sponsorships can be provided by an individual or a team of people.
The entry fee will be $2500 per boat. We will have ten boats available for the event.
The exciting news is that all boats are looking for sponsors. We will have a few open boats I am sure..
We hope these boat sponsors will return from last year's race:
- Mott Blair and Sam Spicer,
- Hugh Carpenter -
- Amanda Tilley -
This event will bring with it a new trophy and new recognition of the sailing greats of Don Lee.
There is an extra contest with this event. Each boat’s crew can become fund raisers as they seek additional sponsorship for their boat. The proceeds from this event will be used to move the new sailing center project forward. You can make your contribution online to support each of the boat captains and see which one can raise the most funds for the new Sailing Center.
