Certification courses from Archery USA in instruction of the sport is also on tap. A renewed focus this year on American Camp Association Outdoor Living Skills level five completion will be covered on each of the trips. There will be a one night trip on kayaks, a two night trip on Flying Scots, and the unbelieveable four night trip on Hobies to Portsmouth Island. Yes, sailing across the Pamilco Sound. |

|
Each candidate will participate in a Bible study and spiritual growth program during the four weeks and will eventually provide spiritual leadership for a camp group during a counseling rotation opportunity.
Selection into this program requires a special application. Persons are chosen by the leadership potential they have demonstrated in camp, school, or church settings already. |

The LIT program focuses on three program areas:
|
1) Personal faith growth:
Within the individual faith focus each LIT will participate in a faith growth and theology workshop. There will be daily, ongoing Bible and faith study, and the group will practice spiritual life journaling. Each LIT will also have the opportunity to learn through practical experience by leading worship for a group of peers, a group of younger campers, and a larger group of mixed ages. |
2) Skill growth and experience:
Each LIT will participate and hopefully succeed in completing courses in Challenge Course Leadership and Safety, Adventure Trip Leadership Workshop and Practice, American Camping Association Outdoor Living Skills, American Red Cross Red Cross Lifeguarding, and US Sailing Association based Instructor Assistant Course. There will course work in Canoeing, kayaking, and archery. Instruction and experience in each of these courses is rigorous and demanding. Applicants should be prepared to work very hard in each of these areas to complete the LIT program. |
3) Leadership theory and experience:
The aim of this program is for each LIT to assume varied leadership roles under the guidance of experienced leaders. LIT's will use the knowledge gained during the practical parts of this course in a variety of leadership and group situations including both the counselor rotation and peer leadership.

** Please note that this is a leadership development program and not a service corps or a junior counselor program. Persons in this program are beginning to make the transition from camper to responsible leader.
Cost Statement:
If you application is accepted, you will be mailed confirmation for your enrollment in the LIT program. Opon receiving your confirmation, you must mail a deposit of $400 to hold your slot in the program. Total cost of the LIT program for 2010 is $2300. This is a program that is majorly underwriten by the Camping and Retreat Ministry and Don Lee Center. The value of this four week experience is certainly priceless. Due to increases in courses and support fees for many of the program elements and increasing insurance fees for this program, we have had to increase the cost. Please do not let the cost stop you if you want to be in this program. There are many sources to aid you with your fees. Many local churches are willing to help with funds for the LIT program.
Payment Statement:
The deposit for the LIT program is $400 . This is paid soon after your acceptance into the program. Total payment is due by May 1, 2009 . Deposits will not be refundable after that date. Due to the llong wait lists that develop each spring, we want to have the availability to fill all open slots with campers for each summer program. Without full payment on that date your camper's spot will be opened to other available campers and you will lose your deposit.
** Completion of the LIT course in no way guarantees a person a job at Camp Don Lee or any of our conference camps now or in the future. However persons who have completed this course are more likely to be chosen over the general market with all skills and abilities being the same. Any camp looking for a good staff person would be interested in one who has completed the course.
